Guide to Temples in Palakkad Amakkavu Bhagawathy Templeￂ The shrine is located at Amakkavu, 2.5- km from Kootanadu on Kunnamkulam-Patambi route. The presiding deity is Bhagawathy, facing east. Ganapathy is a sub- deity here. The people of 96 villages around the temple consider the goddess here as their protector and throng for worship. The main festival is Thalappoli on 30 th of Kumbam (March) for which thousands and thousands gather. Multi-faceted programmes enthrall the crowd. Azhikulangara Bhagawathy Templeￂ The temple is situated in Azhikulangara, near Mudapallor on Vadakunchery-Nemmara route. The deity is Bhagawathy. The 3- day festival commences on 8 th of Edavam (May). The 1 st day is marked for Vela (particular types of festival in Bhagwathy temples is called Vela), 2 nd day is Ezhunnallippu day (a symbol of deity is seated on a caparisoned elephant (often accompanied by other elephants) and circumambulated the temple with thrilling percussion musics which is called Ezhunnallippu). The 3 rd day is marked for Thalappoli (the finale of the festivity with multi rituals and programmes). During these days several cultural programmes and special offerings to the deity will also be there. Large crowd from neighbouring villages gather to enjoy the festivities all these days. Kodanad Shiva Templeￂ The temple is located at Kodanad, near Mezhuthoor. The deity is Shiva. The renowed Vaidyamadom is near this shrine. There are sub-deities. They are Vishnu, Subramanyan, Ganapathy and Ayyappan. The shrines of these gods are outside the sanctum sanctorum and inside the compound wall. As a rare phenomenon there is a shrine for Vishnu outside the compound wall. This temple is owned by Vaidyamadom Pazhiyodu Mana. Vaidyamodom is renowned for Ayurveda treatment. Sree Peechiyamman Templeￂ The temple is situated at Kulalpalayam, near Kalpathy. The presiding deity is goddess Pechiyamman. This rare temple of Pechiyamman is somewhat near the abode of Lord Vishwanatha of Kalpathy (Sree Vishwanatha Swamy temple), the place of famous Kalpathy Ratholsvam. ...Click here to see more Jain Temple: Located 3- km away from the town, on the south bank of Kalpathy River in Jainmedu. The temple was built by Inchanna Satur, a Jain. The idol is of a Jain saint, Chandranatha swamy. There are some ancillary idols. The four division temple allots first division to Chandranathaswamy idol, 2 nd division to the idols of Vijayalaxmi and Jwalamohini, 3 rd to Rishabhanathan and the 4 th to Parswanathan.
